The Broncos have traded WR Brandon Lloyd to the Rams, the team confirmed Monday.
According to PFW correspondent and St. Louis Post-Dispatch writer Jim Thomas, the Rams gave up a sixth-rounder in 2012 that could become a fifth-rounder based on his number of receptions.
"We appreciate all the hard work that Brandon did during his three years in Denver and wish him the best with the Rams," Broncos executive vice president of football operations Jim Elway said on Twitter. "I'm excited about our wide receiver group — this is as healthy as we've been at that position since the start of the year. Our young WRs have really emerged and made some plays, and this is a great opportunity for them to continue to step up."
The Rams were one of three teams mentioned in a Denver Post report from Sunday night indicating suitors for Lloyd, a ninth-year veteran. According to that report, the 49ers had the most interest in Lloyd.
Lloyd is due to make $1.395 million this season. Last season, he had a career year with 77 catches for 1,448 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has 19 catches for 283 yards and no scores this season.
Lloyd will reunite with Josh McDaniels, who was his head coach for part of last season and is currently the Rams' offensive coordinator.
The way we see it
The Rams lost WR Danny Amendola for the season and free-agent acquisition Mike Sims-Walker has been a bust. The Rams may be 0-5, but they have yet to play a division game. Lloyd gives Sam Bradford a big target and is certainly an upgrade at the position.
For the Broncos, the trade confirms that they are confident in the young receiving corps getting the job done without Lloyd. Eric Decker has played well since moving into the starting lineup, and the team is hopeful that 2010 first-round pick Demaryius Thomas will return to the field soon after missing time because of a wrist injury.
