Chiefs, Eagles join teams against NFLCA brief

The Chiefs and Eagles joined a number of teams that have come forward to distance their coaching staffs from the NFL Coaches Association's brief that supported lifting the lockout.

Chiefs head coach Todd Haley told the Kansas City Star, "Nobody was aware that it was going to happen. This was not on behalf of the coaches."

Eagles head coach Andy Read released the following statement: "The Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff was not aware that a brief was being filed by the NFL Coaches Association in the 8th Circuit Court against the NFL Owners last week. We were surprised by the filing and do not support it in any way."

The coaching staffs of the Saints, Rams, Texans, Jaguars, Cowboys and Redskins also have disagreed with the NFLCA brief, uniting with owners.

Larry Kennan, director of the NFLCA, told the Washington Post last week that the brief wasn't intended to be a statement from NFL coaches, but a way to present the negative impact the lockout has had on the league's coaches.

The way we see it

As more coaching staffs come out publicly against the NFLCA's brief, it takes weight away from a potential leverage chip for the players, as owners apparently don't have to worry about coaches going against them during the current labor dispute.
