Hall of Fame RB John Henry Johnson died Friday in Tracy, Calif. at the age of 81. He played for the 49ers, Lions, Steelers and Oilers during his career.
Johnson played in the 49ers' "Million Dollar Backfield" with backs Joe "The Jet" Perry and Hugh McElhenny and QB Y.A. Tittle. He joined the Lions in 1957 before being dealt to the Steelers in 1960. He rushed for 1,141 yards in 1962 and 1,048 yards in 1964, becoming the first Steeler to break 1,000 yards rushing.
Johnson played for the Oilers in the AFL in 1966 before retiring fourth all-time in rushing yards. He now ranks 55th.
A four-time Pro Bowler, Johnson finished with 55 total touchdowns and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987.
