The Browns hired Dick Jauron as their new defensive coordinator on Friday.
Jauron was a senior assistant and DBs coach with the Eagles in 2010. Previously, he was the Bills head coach from 2006-09. Buffalo fired him last November.
"Dick is someone I have known for many years, who is an outstanding football coach and very well-respected around the league," Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said in a statement issued by the club. "He has a tremendous knowledge of the game and is an excellent teacher. His experience in the NFL as a player, position coach, coordinator and head coach will be a huge asset to our staff and I am looking forward to having him as a member of the Cleveland Browns."
Jauron has been a defensive coordinator with Jacksonville (1995-99) and Detroit (2004) and a head coach with Chicago (1999-2003), Detroit (2004 — interim) and Buffalo.
The way we see it
The hiring of Jauron could signal a shift to a 4-3 front for Cleveland, which employed a 3-4 scheme a season ago. Jauron's experience makes him a valuable resource for Shurmur, who's never been a head coach.
