Texans' special teams loom large with rookie under center

In Texans WR Andre Johnson's six-game absence because of a hamstring injury, Houston hoped for big contributions in the passing game from Jacoby Jones. However, Jones underwhelmed, catching just 15 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns. Now, with Houston down to its third-string QB, Jones is needed again — as a return man. Jones came up big in Week 12, setting up a Texans TD with a 42-yard return in the second quarter. Although he hasn't brought a punt back to the house since Week One, Jones appears to be getting closer and closer each week. With rookie fifth-rounder T.J. Yates under center, the Texans need all the help they can get from their defense and special teams. Jones might never reach his potential as a receiver, but his ability to create good field position is valuable. S Danieal Manning soon could be back in the mix returning kickoffs, giving Houston two dangerous weapons in the return game.
