The Vikings claimed QB Sage Rosenfels off waivers, the team announced Friday.
The Dolphins waived Rosenfels from the reserve/non-football injury list on Thursday. Rosenfels missed most of the preseason with the Giants after problems with strep throat. He signed with Miami after Chad Henne was placed on injured reserve but became ill again.
The Vikings released veteran QB Donovan McNabb on Thursday, and Rosenfels likely will back up rookie QB Christian Ponder. Minnesota also has second-year QB Joe Webb.
Rosenfels was with the Vikings in 2009. He last threw a pass in an NFL game in 2008 with the Texans.
Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported that no team placed a claim on McNabb, which would make him a free agent.
