The Jaguars waived WR Jason Hill, placed S Courtney Greene on injured reserve, promoted RB DuJuan Harris from the practice squad and signed free-agent CB Morgan Trent, the team announced Wednesday.
Hill started 10 games for the Jags this season, making 25 catches for 367 yards and three touchdowns.
Greene, in his third season from Rutgers, played in seven games this season, starting two, recording 10 tackles.
Harris spent the first 12 weeks of the season on the practice squad after joining the Jags as an undrafted rookie in the offseason.
Trent has played in 31 career games during his three seasons, including six with the Bengals and one with the Colts in 2011. In his career, he has accumulated 60 tackles, one sack and one interception.
The way we see it
The release of Hill is another black eye on GM Gene Smith's track record at the WR position. Jacksonville's only attempt to bolster the receiving corps in the offseason was spending a fifth-round draft pick on Cecil Shorts, who has been a nonfactor. The Jaguars clearly misevaluated Hill, the club's No. 2 wideout to begin the season.
With it looking more and more like the Jaguars again will hold a top-10 pick in next April's draft, acquiring a true No. 1 receiver to pair with Mike Thomas should be the club's top priority.
