Missouri junior QB Blaine Gabbert declared for the NFL Draft on Monday, foregoing his final year of eligibility. A two-year starter at Missouri, Gabbert was a second-team All-Big 12 quarterback in 2009, and an honorable mention performer in 2010. This past season, Gabbert completed 301-of-475 passes for 3,186 yards and 16 touchdowns playing in Missouri's wide-open spread attack. Gabbert also proved to be an effective runner, gaining 232 yards and scoring five touchdowns.
Gabbert concluded his college career with a bang, throwing for a Missouri bowl-record 434 yards in the Insight Bowl against Iowa. Gabbert also threw a costly interception at the end of that game, which was returned for the eventual winning score by the Hawkeyes.
According to PFW draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki, the 6'5" Gabbert is projected to be a late-first round pick in this year's draft. Nawrocki sees starter potential in Gabbert's strong arm, physical ability and good size. However, Nawrocki notes it may take a few years for him to develop into this role after playing in a quick, one-read system at Missouri.
