No deal yet, but Bears, Adams share mutual interest

Bears head coach Lovie Smith and defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli spoke glowingly about DT Anthony Adams this week as Adams was honored with the Brian Piccolo Award, which goes to a veteran Bears player and a rookie — J'Marcus Webb this year — that best exemplify the courage, loyalty teamwork, dedication and sense of humor of the late Brian Piccolo. Adams even spoke like he would be playing for the Bears next season at the April 26 ceremony, but he's not under contract with the Bears in 2011. Adams will be an unrestricted free agent when free agency begins this offseason. It's clear the team wants to re-sign him, but it would appear that its best offer thus far left Adams unsatisfied — he turned down a contract extension during the season. Smith said the Bears would "let the (free-agency) process play out," when he was asked about re-signing Adams on Tuesday, and Adams was too classy to make any complaints in such a setting.
