Prince Amukamara's draft diary, Part Nine

Nebraska CB Prince Amukamara is talking to PFW's Kevin Fishbain for a weekly diary leading up to the draft. In this week's entry, Prince talks about giving back to the community while at Nebraska and who will be accompanying him to the draft.

On some of the community outreach programs he was involved in at Nebraska:
When I got to college, my faith in Jesus just took off. I've developed a genuine concern for others. Just going and making those people's day, it did a lot for me. I learned a lot about autism. I visited an autism clinic and went to hospitals and stuff like that. I'm sure it means a lot to them, but it means a lot to me too.

On what he'll miss most from college a few days after attending Nebraska's 2011 spring game:
The tunnel walk. It's like a red carpet. Walking through there with your teammates about to go to war, it's your moment to get loose and do anything. My friends and I liked to dance and stuff. After you get out from the tunnel walk, you go through the gates and see a huge sea of red. It's such a surreal moment.

On a story on ESPN.com that said: "The bottom line is that (Jimmy) Smith and (Brandon) Harris both played better than Amukamara against top-level competition in college."
(Laughs). Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. That's just one guy. I'm confident in my abilities. I know what I can do. I feel like I'm one of the best corners in the draft. I feel I am the best cover corner and the most physical in this draft. I know Jimmy Smith and Brandon Harris; they are both good at what they do, too.

On all the reports about the character of prospects heading into the draft:
I understand that teams are making a huge investment so they have to do their due diligence. Just going through college, especially being a college athlete, you're looked at through a fish bowl — a lot of stuff is going to come your way. It's just how you handle it. It's very hard, it just takes discipline.

On how he maintained good character during his time at Nebraska:
I met with our team chaplain weekly. I've struggled through stuff through college — by no means am I this perfect person. I feel like I'm not only representing myself, I'm representing my family and my university. My dad always told me a good name is better than riches so I took that to heart.

On who he invited to join him in New York for the draft:
My parents. And I felt that coaches were a huge part of raising you, being there since Day One and always wanting the best for you. I invited all my high school coaches — the head coaches for track, basketball and football, and my Pop Warner coaches. Everyone that has had a big influence on me and who I am today, including our team chaplain here at Nebraska and another mentor — I feel like this is a credit to them, too, for investing so much in me.
