Draft countdown: Pick No. 22

Overview: The 22nd pick in the draft has been used to take a lot of big-name players. Some lived up to the hype better than others, but in the long run PFW found that many of the players taken at No. 22, a draft slot that is held by the Colts this year, were unable to fulfill expectations:

2010: Broncos select Georgia Tech WR Demaryius Thomas
Injuries have limited Thomas' ability to show what he can do. He played in just 10 contests last season, grabbing 8-97-1 in Week Two. But surgery on a torn Achilles tendon in the offseason likely will limit Thomas in '11.

2009: Vikings select Florida WR Percy Harvin
The skill and athleticism haven't been problems, but the migraines have. Harvin has proven to be one of the NFL's top slot receivers and most dangerous returners, but he has had trouble staying on the field consistently.

2008: Cowboys select Arkansas RB Felix Jones
Jones has shown he can be effective but has never developed into an every-down back. He ran for a career-high 800 yards last season but has picked up only seven rushing touchdowns in his three-year career.

2007: Browns select Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn
After holding out to begin his career, Quinn lost the starting job in Cleveland on multiple occasions. He was eventually shipped to the Broncos for RB Peyton Hills, and he has yet to see a snap in Denver.

2006: 49ers select North Carolina State OLB Manny Lawson
The 49ers thought they were getting a consistent, double-digit sacker when they drafted Lawson. He turned out to be a disappointment, tallying just 14½ sacks in his five seasons in San Francisco.

2005: Ravens select Oklahoma WR Mark Clayton
Clayton looked like he turned the corner in his second year in the league, catching 67-939-5, but he was never able to build off that career year. His play tailed off over the next three seasons, and he eventually joined the Rams in '10.

2004: Bills select Tulane QB J.P. Losman
Expected to become the next Jim Kelly, Losman was never able to live up to expectations. His career total of 34 interceptions is one higher than his 33 touchdown passes, and a career passer rating of 75.6 isn't good enough for an NFL starter.

2003: Bears select Florida QB Rex Grossman
Grossman spent six seasons with the Bears, but injuries and a lack of accuracy never allowed him to develop into a star. In 2006, his lone season making all 16 starts for Chicago, he threw 23 touchdown passes and led the Bears to the Super Bowl.

2002: Jets select UAB DE Bryan Thomas
Thomas has had a solid career in his nine seasons with the Jets and has missed just three games in total. He has held up well for his age (31) and has proven to be a solid pass rusher while still being productive against the run.

2001: Giants select Syracuse CB Will Allen
Allen played well for both the Giants and Dolphins in his nine pro seasons, but he has recently hit a wall. His '09 season was cut short by a knee injury, which was followed by a DUI arrest and another knee injury which kept him out in '10.
