The NFL is insisting that testing for human growth hormone is included in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Speaking to a group of Baltimore high school football players, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stated the importance of an effective drug-testing program, according to the Baltimore Sun.
"The integrity of the NFL is critical," Goodell said, according to the paper. "We have to make sure that we're doing everything possible to have the best drug program in sports. Making changes to our program is critical. We have done that over the years and we have to do more, including the inclusion of HGH testing."
Goodell said that the testing was discussed during previous negations and that the players had resisted the testing in the past because it involves blood, rather than urine, testing.
Speaking about the lockout, the commissioner said that he doesn't believe it is an issue that should be resolved in court.
"This is an issue that should be decided at the bargaining table. We have to get back to that bargaining table no matter what the outcome of the litigation," Goodell said, according to the Sun.
