People are getting pissed about this ticket bullshit

Ginger warrior Jason MacDonald hasn't had much luck getting back into the cage to fight, but at least he has a backup job writing articles for CTV Sportsnet. In his latest column he tackles UFC 129 selling out in record time - not with the standard gushing love most others have, but from the perspective of a Canadian who's friends and family weren't able to even get a whiff of tickets:

The big news last week was the Toronto show selling out in record time, with record attendance and record gate. But I have to say, I have some pretty upset friends and family. None of them were able to get any tickets.

A couple different people told me the only reason they signed up for the UFC Fight Club was to ensure that they could get tickets and then they couldn't get one of the 55,000 tickets that were sold. They said they have no desire for being part of a fan club and now they have this $89 membership that's useless to them.

The sentiment that I read from a lot of people was that they bought the membership with the assumption that they can get tickets ahead of the general public and they felt somewhat privileged or had a sense of entitlement. So maybe there was some frustration in that regard.

All I know is my entire family was online at 8 a.m. MT when the tickets first went on sale and there wasn't a ticket to be had. So I understand the frustration of someone not being able to get a ticket to watch their own son compete.

I don't know that blame could be placed on anyone for it. Ticket agencies such as StubHub go on and buy up a bunch of tickets. Maybe the UFC should look at selling the tickets independently so that places ticket vendors can't buy thousands of seats and then sell them at a huge markup within hours. But I know before lunch time there were tickets on StubHub for four times the face value.

And if a fan buys the membership and is on the site as soon as the tickets are on sale, maybe the UFC needs to do a better job to make sure they have a more fair chance.

Considering the UFC is literally in paid cahoots with StubHub, it shouldn't be surprising that shit goes down this way. But can we agree that when a person buys a Fight Club membership so they can get a few tickets to a 55,000 person event but still can't - even though they were trying the minute tickets went on sale - that things have gotten out of control?
