Chargers OLB English says he had foot surgery in March

Chargers OLB Larry English, coming off a disappointing, injury-plagued 2010 season, admitted to PFW Chargers correspondent Scott Bair, of the North County Times, that he had surgery on his injured left foot in early March.

English, who has collected just five sacks in two seasons, was drafted by the team in the first round in 2009 with the intention of becoming a pass-rushing force but his performance has fallen far short of those expectations.

He suffered a broken left foot in training camp last season but tried to play through the injury before having to undergo surgery that resulted in a couple screws being inserted into the foot. He missed six games before playing eight of the last 10 games of the season but did little, finishing with 17 tackles and three sacks.

English continued to be troubled by the foot and went back under the knife for a follow-up surgical procedure in early March. Another screw was put in to help the foot heal properly. English, who has added muscle mass, said that he expects to be ready for the start of the season, whenever that is.
