Jaguars could target Chargers S Weddle in free agency

The caveat of the Jaguars aggressively trading up in the draft to secure their quarterback of the future in Blaine Gabbert is that the team will have to be active in free agency to address several glaring holes on defense. We hear that GM Gene Smith has targeted 2-4 players, though who specifically, he has kept close to the vest for obvious reasons. Safety, linebacker and defensive end are all areas where upgrades are needed, and a popular name that we are hearing is Chargers FS Eric Weddle. With San Diego signing Bob Sanders before the lockout, the door might have opened for Weddle's departure. He has the range and coverage skills to be a great asset for the Jaguars, who allowed the most yards per pass play in the NFL last season. The club remains high on SS Courtney Greene, who, when healthy, was a tone setter for the run defense last season but remains a liability in pass coverage.
