Ex-Bears S Harris claimed by Lions

The Lions have signed SS Chris Harris off waivers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The veteran defensive back was released by the Bears on Thursday. S Vincent Fuller was put on I.R. to create a roster spot for Harris.

Harris was let go from Chicago partially because of his play against Detroit. In the teams' Week Five meeting, Harris was at fault for a pair of long touchdowns by the Lions. This resulted in his benching by head coach Lovie Smith, and though he regained his starting job in Week Seven, Harris was released by the team during its bye week.

Part of the reason, it was believed, that Harris struggled vs. the Lions earlier in the year was because of a hamstring injury. The safety told a Chicago radio station on Thursday following his release that he was 100 percent healthy and able to contribute to a new team immediately.

The Lions have talent at the safety position in Louis Delmas and Amari Spievey, but lack much experience or depth.

The Lions travel to Chicago on Nov. 13 in what should be a very interesting reunion between Harris and his former teammates.
