Report: Patriots cut CB Bodden

The Patriots have waived CB Leigh Bodden, according to a report by ProFootballTalk.

Bodden signed a four-year contract prior to last season and has played in five games, with only one start, so far this season.

The nine-year veteran, who missed all of the 2010 season after suffering a knee injury in the preseason, has 17 tackles and four passes defensed this season. He came to New England in 2009 after playing with the Browns (2003-07) and the Lions (’08). He led the Patriots with five interceptions in ’09 and was considered to be the team's top corner.

The way we see it

This move comes as a bit of a surprise. Bodden has primarily played in the nickel so far this season, but along with the rest of the secondary, he has struggled.

The Pats must be expecting that one of their injured corners, like rookie Ras-I Dowling, is getting close to returning to the field. Antwaun Molden would step into the nickel role in the short-term.
