Week Six brings you the following teams on bye: Broncos, Chiefs, Chargers, Titans, Cardinals and Seahawks. You're losing the services of players like QB Philip Rivers, RB Willis McGahee, WRs Dwayne Bowe and Sidney Rice. Prepare properly as we enter the midway point of the fantasy season.
Fantasy success
Patriots WR Deion Branch (7-74-1) is in a high-powered offense and you keep playing him. He finally came through and he saw as many targets as Wes Welker (eight). It shows Brady will go to the open receiver or one who has a favorable matchup. Branch now has two straight games with a touchdown, continuing to make him a quality No. 3 fantasy receiver.
Bengals WR A.J. Green (5-90-1) saw eight targets to lead all receivers and had his first good game with QB Andy Dalton struggling. Green now has three touchdowns and three exceptional games this year. He has a two-game average of nine targets, converting them into 4.5 receptions for 104 yards and 0.5 TDs, posting No. 1 receiver numbers.
WR Hines Ward (7-54-2) had a season-high seven receptions and led the team with eight targets. Ward will have a few games like this, and this one came at the expense of Antonio Brown (2-23-0), who only had four targets, his lowest output of the season. Ward posted No. 1 fantasy numbers but remains a bye-week or injury fill-in as this game was a product of QB Ben Roethlisberger's five-touchdown game.
Vikings WR Percy Harvin (1-11-0 receiving, 1-12-0 rushing) is a bust so far. He has a two-game average of 4.5 targets for three receptions, 26.5 yards and no touchdowns. He's more productive on the ground with 2.5 attempts for 39.5 yards per game. He's finding ways to earn points, but they're minimal, making him a bye-week or injury fill-in.
WR Mario Manningham (5-56-0) is slowly playing himself back into the fold, increasing his targets this week to nine. However, Victor Cruz (8-161-1), with 11 targets, is eating into Manningham's numbers and is playing on a much higher level. Unless Cruz's production levels off, he's going to see playing time. Manningham drops into a flex position role whereas you need to ride Cruz while he's hot and play him until he comes back down to earth.
Surprises
Packers WR James Jones (5-140-1) has improved every game with two touchdowns in two games and is becoming part of the offense again. Like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers goes through his reads efficiently and will find the open receiver. Depending on the weekly matchups, Jones will be inconsistent like Jordy Nelson was this week. Jones makes a bye-week or injury fill-in.
Jaguars WR Jason Hill (5-118-1) had eight targets and is starting to become involved in the offense with a two-game average of 8.5 targets for 3.5 receptions for 76 yards and 0.5 TDs. Let's pause because his TD was a 74-yard bomb and more of a fluke. He's someone to monitor on the waiver wire but not to roster.
Raiders WR Darrius Howard-Bey (7-99-1) led the team with 12 targets and has a two-game average of 9.5 targets for 5.5 receptions, 107 yards and 0.5 TDs. Pick him up, but understand that this is a deep receiving corps and his play will be inconsistent. The team has invested time, money and effort into him, and it's finally starting to pay dividends. This is his third year and it's possible everything's beginning to click. He's a No. 3 receiver based on the matchup.
Texans WR Kevin Walters (5-81-1) had his best game of the season with six targets and is outplaying Jacoby Jones, who had 11 targets with only one reception for nine yards. Until Jones can get it going, you keep him on the bench or outright waive him. Walters is a flex, bye-week or injury fill-in depending on the matchup.
Eagles WR Jason Avant (9-139-0) turned the ball over, but that diminished only minimally from his team-leading 10 targets. Realize, he's the No. 3 receiver and you can't count on consistent production from him. He has a two-game average of nine targets for 7.5 receptions, 104 yards and no TDs. Great numbers, and it shows there are depth players who will produce during the bye weeks. He's a bye-week or injury fill-in as he's the fourth offensive option.
Slowing down or struggling
Bills WR Stevie Johnson (4-29-0) had his worst game of the season and saw a season-low five targets. His numbers are trending down with a two-game average of 5.5 targets for four receptions, 43.5 yards and no TDs. The best receivers have bad games, but he needs to bounce back. He still makes a No. 2 fantasy receiver based on talent.
Bucs WR Mike Williams (4-28-0) can't get anything going outside of targets. He has a three-week average of 8.3 targets for 4.7 receptions for 45.7 yards and no touchdowns. After a great rookie season, the sophomore slump continues. He's only a No. 3 flex or bye-week receiver right now.
Raiders WR Denarius Moore (0-0-0) saw six targets but is clearly a fringe fantasy player. Since Week Two (5-146-1) he hasn't impressed, with a three-game average of 5.7 targets for 2.3 receptions and 0.3 TDs. It's time to bench him or use him only as a bye-week or injury fill-in.
Looking toward the bye week
Broncos WR Eric Decker (2-(-4)-0) only saw five targets and was shut down. He's young, and inconsistency will come as teams begin to focus on him. However he still warrants a No. 3 receiver slot.
Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (8-136-1) had 10 targets and now has a two-game average of 7.5 targets for 6.5 receptions for 110 yards and 0.5 TDs. He's worthy of a roster spot and bye-week or injury fill-in status.
Chiefs WR Steve Breaston (4-50-2) has a two-game average of five targets for four receptions, 70.5 yards and one TD and has improved weekly since Week Three. In larger leagues he warrants a roster spot as a bye-week or injury fill-in, but rookie WR Jonathan Baldwin (wrist) should be back after the bye. He'll slowly integrate himself into the offense at the expense of Breaston's touches.
Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (3-100-1) had seven targets as Broncos CB Champ Bailey covered Vincent Jackson (3-34-0). TE Antonio Gates (foot) says he'll be back after the bye, and that relegates Floyd to your bench, barely warranting bye-week or injury fill-in status.
WR Early Doucet (8-92-0) had his best game yet with 16 targets and appears to be separating himself from Andre Roberts (3-36-0). It's only one game, so let's see him do this again before considering him for a waiver pickup.
