Bite size morsels coming out of UFC 124

There was a surprisingly small amount of interesting news coming out of this event - Dana White sounds like he's sick of being on the road and feeling behind on his work. The man who normally has an excited answer for every question actually got pissed when people were asking him what was next for Georges, Toronto, and TUF. That means even though Georges vs Jake Shields is pretty much a shoe in for the Toronto stadium show, the best we got was this:

"The fight just got over," White said. "Like I say all the time, every time we go into the press conference, you guys are trying to make fights. I just don't know yet."

"I think I'm OK," St-Pierre said. "I will see the doctor. I have some bumps and bruises, but I'm healthy. So far, with the adrenaline, I feel good. We'll see in a few minutes when things slow down, but I think I can go back to training inmaybe two or three days."

It also sounds like Cain Velasquez will be making his first title defense in Toronto against Junior Dos Santos, although again: no confirmation from Mr Cranky, who pulled out Scott Coker's trusty mantra of "We'll know in a few weeks."

What we won't have to wait around for is whether Joe Stevenson's UFC career is over. He's in a bad position - he's lost two in a row and while he looked great against Nate Diaz, fights against any of the top five at lightweight probably wouldn't end well for him. But despite this, it sounds like the UFC will keep him around:

"Joe Stevenson has had a bad run, but it's just so tough to cut a guy that comes in and does what he's supposed to do," White said. "He's one of those guys. He got knocked out trying to knock [Danzig] out tonight. That's what happened.

"We'll see what happens with Joe Stevenson. I respect him. Joe (Silva) respects him. We like him. I wouldn't say he's getting cut."

This continues the UFC's difficult balancing act between scaring fighters away from fighting risky with quick firings and encouraging them to go for broke with bonuses and reprieves. Statistically it's going to be hard to keep up, though.

Here's an interesting quote regarding Koscheck's pre-fight impression of how things were going to go. Poor Kos. He keeps guessing the wrong strategy for his fights with GSP.

"This is what Koscheck said to me yesterday: I saw him at the hotel, and he was like, 'He's never going to stand up with me. There's no way he's going to stand up with me,'" White said. "Georges St-Pierre stood up with him tonight."

Ego is a bitch ... it makes you more blind than 30 GSP jabs to the face.

Awards were a very impressive $100,000, although they didn't always go to the right people:

• Fight of the Night: Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck
• Submission of the Night: Jim Miller and Mark Bocek
• Knockout of the Night: Mac Danzig

GSP vs Koscheck won FOTN based on the UFC allowing people to vote for it on a website during the event. Doing it for this event was a little shortsighted on the UFC's part since Georges St Pierre was going to win any award the public could vote on, even if it had been Knockout of the Night. The real FOTN was Matt Riddle vs Sean Pierson and Dana promised they'd 'be taken care of.' Extra points for that, plus for doubling up submission of the night bonuses. Both Mark Bocek and Jim Miller should be very happy their opponents underestimated them and their mad jitz skillz.
