Meriweather gets second questionable Pro Bowl selection

The Patriots placed six players on the Pro Bowl team, more than any of their Super Bowl teams. The irony came on defense, where the Patriots' 27th-ranked "D" is sending four starters to Hawaii. S Brandon Meriweather was the head scratcher of the group in his second consecutive Pro Bowl nod. Meriweather has three interceptions, but had to regain his starting job earlier in the season from James Sanders. Meriweather is best at over-the-top coverage, but he doesn't bring much help in defending the run. Meriweather is their guy on the outside, but he takes a lot of chances, as seen when he misjudged a deep third-down pass that resulted in a 66-yard TD catch for Green Bay's James Jones in Week 15. One daily team observer sees the team possibly parting ways with Meriweather after the season considering the depth the Pats have at the position. With Jarrad Page healthy, the Patriots have two smart, physical safeties in Page and Sanders. Plus, Patrick Chung is the team's run stopper and an emerging playmaker.
