Here's a matchup to watch in Sunday's Browns-Dolphins game.
Browns WRs Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi vs. Dolphins CBs Vontae Davis and Sean Smith
Robiskie (6-3, 209) and Massaquoi (6-2, 207), the Browns' starting wide receivers in their base two-WR set, were each targeted seven times in Week 12 vs. Carolina. The combined 14 targets was a season high for Robiskie and Massaquoi, who line up outside.
The seven targets were a season high for Robiskie, who caught every pass thrown to him and racked up 50 yards receiving (long of 15 yards). Massaquoi, who was targeted a season-best nine times the previous week, caught 4-52-0 vs. the Panthers (long of 19 yards).
The increase in collective opportunities for Robiskie and Massaquoi came in QB Jake Delhomme's second start of the season. Delhomme will likely get another start Sunday, so expect the wideouts to again be key parts of the offense.
Teams haven't looked to go after the 5-11, 203-pound Davis all that often, preferring to throw at his counterpart, Smith. The 6-3, 214-pound Smith, who started all 16 games in 2009, recaptured the starting job from the now-departed Jason Allen in Week Nine. Davis and Smith both play physically, and the Dolphins usually play man coverage, so the one-on-one battles outside bear monitoring.
All four players are in their second NFL seasons, and all were well-regarded prospects. Davis was the Dolphins' first-round pick in 2009, while Smith was a second-round selection. Robiskie and Massaquoi were second-round picks.
