The stars are literally aligning in the junior welterweight (140 pounds) division, where the bulk of the prospects in boxing's deepest and most youthful and talent-filled weight class have ties with HBO. Tempers flared during a Wednesday press conference in New York for the Jan. 29 HBO televised clash between 23-year-old southpaw WBC junior welterweight king Devon Alexander (pictured at right, on the left) of St. Louis, Mo., and 27-year-old WBO counter part Tim Bradley (pictured at far right), of Palm Springs, Calif., which is headed for the Pontiac Silverdome, in Pontiac, Mich.
The promoter of Bradley (26-0, 11 KOs), Gary Shaw, took shots at the manager and trainer of Alexander (21-0, 13 knockouts), Kevin Cunningham, as well as Alexander, and Cunningham returned fire.
Nicknamed, "The Desert Storm," Bradley was so riled up near the end of the press conference that he literally would not stop shouting insults at Alexander, who finally retaliated, verbally, albeit, in a more subdued manner.
