Bears sign P McGee

The Bears announded Friday that they signed P Richmond McGee to a two-year contract.

This is McGee's fourth stint with the team. He spent parts of last season on Chicago's practice squad and also spent time with the Bears last offseason and in the ’09 preseason, when he punted four times and averaged 36.3 yards per punt.

McGee entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Eagles in 2008. He played for Texas when they won the national championship in ’05, but has not played in a regular-season game in the NFL.

The way we see it

Longtime Bears P Brad Maynard is due to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, so the Bears have a potential replacement at punter if Maynard is not re-signed. If Maynard does return, it appears he will have to compete against McGee to keep his job.
