Browns players of the week: Week Three

Here are the Browns' offensive, defensive and special-teams standouts of Cleveland's 17-16 win vs. Miami on Sunday:

Offense — RB Montario Hardesty

Making his first-career start in place of Peyton Hillis (illness), Hardesty rushed for 67 yards on 14 carries (4.8 ypc) and caught three passes for 19 yards (four targets). His 10-yard gain on a fourth-down catch late in the fourth quarter kept Cleveland's eventual game-winning drive alive. Hardesty showed he deserves to be getting a little more work even after Hillis returns.

Defense — DT Ahtyba Rubin

Rubin had a monster game, notching nine tackles and 1½ tackles. One of the Browns' top players a season ago, Rubin has picked up right where he left off. If he keeps this up, he will merit strong Pro Bowl consideration. The good news for Cleveland: Rubin recently agreed to a contract extension. Other Browns defenders having strong games Sunday included MLB D'Qwell Jackson (11 tackles, half a sack), DT Phil Taylor (seven tackles, one sack), DE Jayme Mitchell (1½ sacks) and CB Joe Haden (held WR Brandon Marshall to 4-43 receiving on seven targets).

Special teams — Reserve ILB Kaluka Maiava

Maiava was credited with a pair of tackles in coverage, a team-high. The Browns were without Joshua Cribbs, who was limited by a groin injury, on returns Sunday.
