Return of Landry could boost Redskins' defense

Although he was on the field only nine games last season, Redskins insiders said SS LaRon Landry was the team's best defensive player last season. His return from an Achilles injury and a hamstring setback have cost him the first two games, but he's ready to return the field to get back to his role of punishing ballcarriers. The Redskins can't wait to see a healthy Landry lined up next to Oshiomogho Atogwe, who has been a playmaker in his career at free safety. Landry found a home last season closer to the line of scrimmage and flourished in that role, so the thinking is that the two will make up one of the league's best safety tandems in time. Reed Doughty, who has started in place of Landry, is a solid, capable player. He just isn't the hitter or enforcer that Landry is.
