The Vikings' rookie tight ends are starting to make impacts.
Kyle Rudolph, the ballyhooed second-rounder, caught his first NFL pass Sunday and netted 15 yards. He was on the field in a lot of two-TE sets, some of the time as a blocker and sometimes flexed out as a route runner. His role in the offense is still developing.
Allen Reisner, the surprise addition to the back end of the roster, was on the field for a handful of snaps and will be a part of the two- and three-TE formations the team appears bent on using most weeks.
After that, the rookie contributions were quite thin.
DT Christian Ballard was in the team's nickel package as a rusher but barely made his presence felt.
QB Christian Ponder is the backup — for now. We'll continue to see how long they go with Donovan McNabb.
LB Larry Dean was active but did not register a tackle on defense or special teams in Sunday's game.
The team's other four rookies — Brandon Fusco, DeMarcus Love, Mistral Raymond and D'Aundre Reed — were inactive. Reed kept his roster spot over Adrian Awasom, who has a knee injury, when the Vikings activated DT Kevin Williams from suspension on Tuesday.
