Giants place OLT Beatty on injured reserve

The Giants announced Wednesday that they have placed OLT Will Beatty on injured reserve because of a detached retina. He will be replaced on the roster by OLB Chase Blackburn.

Beatty had surgery to repair his eye last week. Prior to the injury, Beatty, in his third season from Connecticut, had started 10 games at left tackle this season.

Blackburn was with the Giants from 2005-10, starting 17 games and recording 210 tackles and 1½ sacks.

The Giants also added WR-KR Isaiah Stanback to the practice squad and released QB Ryan Perrilloux. A 2007 fourth-round pick by the Cowboys, Stanback has five career receptions for 46 yards.

The way we see it

Beatty quietly had been the Giants' best offensive lineman this season, so losing him for the rest of the season is a big blow for a team fighting for its playoff life.

Expect David Diehl to continue to play left tackle, with Kevin Boothe playing left guard.
