Lions RB Smith, FS Delmas hurt in game

Lions RB Kevin Smith left the Thanksgiving Day game with an injury and didn't return. Fox-TV reported that Smith suffered a high ankle sprain, according to a Lions trainer.

Smith had seven carries for 36 yards and three receptions for 21 yards before leaving the game after the third play of the second quarter, a play on which he handed the ball off to WR Nate Burleson on a reverse that gained 11 yards.

Smith, who had a big game in Week 11, when he accounted for 201 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns, was replaced by Maurice Morris, who totaled 120 offensive yards in Smith's absence.

The Lions had other key injuries Thursday. According to the Detroit News, the team was down to two healthy cornerbacks after Chris Houston and Brandon McDonald suffered knee injuries in the game and didn't return. Starting FS Louis Delmas also was lost to a knee injury.

Meanwhile, Packers LB A.J. Hawk suffered a left calf injury, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, and didn't return. His replacement, Robert Francois, intercepted Matthew Stafford prior to Green Bay's third touchdown, a 65-yard pass from Aaron Rodgers to James Jones.

Desmond Bishop, another Packers linebacker, injured his right calf and spent the rest of the game on crutches on the sideline.
