60-second rant: Bears? fortunes changing quickly

The Bears have run into a couple teams at the right time this season. They shut out the Dolphins when they were down to their third-string quarterback, they came out on top in a tight battle against Detroit when it was forced to start No. 3 QB Drew Stanton, and they have taken advantage of a less-than-daunting schedule.

The combined record of teams Chicago has defeated is 40-64.

They're down after getting blown out by the Patriots at home, but the Bears are still in first place in the NFC North and could catch another team with an ugly quarterback situation on Monday night.

The Vikings are scouring the free-agent market for a signalcaller and are considering eight veterans. Whomever they sign could start against Chicago, since Tarvaris Jackson and Brett Favre are dealing with injuries. Third-stringer Joe Webb, a rookie sixth-round pick, may be a worse option to play than a street free agent that may not have a great grasp of Minnesota's offense.

If the Packers, who could be playing arguably the league's best team, New England, without concussed QB Aaron Rodgers, lose Sunday, and the Bears beat the Vikings, who scored even fewer points (three) than Chicago (seven) in Week 14, on Monday, Chicago clinches the division title.

The sting of being whacked by the Patriots shouldn't be a long-lasting one for the Bears.
