With K-1's World Grand Prix wrapping up last weekend, FEG can now finally spend some time working on it's Dynamite!! card going down in two weeks. First off regarding the company actually having the dough to pull off a big show, they apparently have a new life-saving investor:
Head Kick Legend went on to confirm today with Mike Kogan that K-1 has indeed found an investor for at least the upcoming year and things are being worked out right now to solidify the deal. This is gigantic news for the company that has been facing an uncertain financial future after a rough year and a funding deal with Chinese investment bank PUJI fell through in the last minute. The deal supposedly fell through because FEG and PUJI were not seeing eye-to-eye for the future.
Who this investor is and whether the sides can come to an agreement that pans out with money in FEG's pocket is an entire other matter. Let's just hope this isn't part of that 'FEG turning to the Yakuza for money' rumor from earlier.
Dynamite's annual Japanese TV partner still hasn't come out to fully commit to airing the show on their network yet, but that hasn't stopped fights from being set up. Where last week we had two fights, now we have eight.
- DREAM WW Title Fight: Marius Zaromskis vs. Kazushi Sakuraba
- DREAM FW Title Fight: Bibiano Fernandes vs. Hiroyuki Takaya
- DREAM/K-1 Special Rules bout: Shinya Aoki vs. Yuichiro Nagashima
- Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Josh Thomson
- Kazuyuki Miyata vs. Caol Uno
- Jerome Le Banner vs. Tatsuya Mizuno
- Hayato 'Mach' Sakurai vs. Jason High
- K-1 bout: Akiyo ?Wicky? Nishiura vs. Tetsuya Yamato
The most interesting fight on this slate is the fight between Shinya Aoki and cross-dressing K-1 World Max 2010 Japan winner Yuichiro Nagashima. The fight is going to be half MMA, half kickboxing, and split up by rounds. For Nagashima and the fans' sake, I hope round 1 is kickboxing or it's going to be a pretty short freakshow. At least the intros should be entertaining ... Nagashima's got a hell of a dance routine.
Still on the rumor plate is Gegard Mousasi, Melvin Manhoef, and Alistair Overeem. Overeem, who just fought 3 fights to win last weekend's K-1 Grand Prix, sounds interested but only if it's a decent fight for the DREAM heavyweight belt. Unfortunately, DREAM has been having a hard time getting serious heavyweights in the cage. Fights involving Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski never materialize while we're treated to garbage with James Thompson and Ironhead Fujita getting smushed.
Scott Coker has already said nay nay to Josh Barnett fighting, and TBS has allegedly turned down footing the bill for Fedor. Here's an idea: now that Aleksander Emelianenko is 'healthy', why not fight him? As Mirko Crocop learned, kicking the head off Fedor's little bro may not be the catalyst to landing a Fedor fight, but it certainly doesn't hurt.
