The Vikings are working hard to repair the tear in the inflatable roof above the Mall of America Field for Monday's game against the Bears, but they also are ready for Plan B, if needed.
"The Minnesota Vikings are working diligently with the University of Minnesota and the NFL on preparing TCF Bank Stadium in the event that Mall of America Field at the Metrodome will not be ready for Monday night's Vikings-Bears game," the team said in a statement released Tuesday. "Their cooperation has been tremendous.
"The Vikings are committed to ensuring a home game in Minnesota for our fans. We will continue to update fans and media as the process moves forward, but at this time no further information is available."
Other issues that have yet to be figured out if the game moves to TCF Bank Stadium are alcohol sales and ticket sales. Because it's the University of Minnesota's new home stadium, alcohol is not sold there currently, and the stadium is not equipped for it. Also, the capacity of the stadium is only 50,805 and the Metrodome holds 64,111 fans for football games.
ESPN, which broadcasts "Monday Night Football," also must have enough time to set up its equipment for the show well in advance.
"We are working closely with the NFL," ESPN senior director of communications told PFW. "We recognize it's a very unusual circumstance. We're just trying to be flexible."
The Vikings were forced to move their game scheduled for last Sunday at home to Detroit's Ford Field, where the Vikings lost 21-3 to the Giants on Monday.
