Brees: Agent, Saints continue to discuss contract

The agent for Saints QB Drew Brees continues to negotiate with the team about a long-term contract extension for the Pro Bowl quarterback, Brees told the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Brees is entering the final year of a six-year, $60 million deal he signed with the Saints as a free agent in 2006. Prominent agent Tom Condon represents Brees.

When asked if he was aware of the lucrative contract signed Monday by Eagles QB Michael Vick (reported as a six-year deal worth $100 million but in reality a five-year deal worth $80 million), Brees said, "I did see it. It looks like a nice contract. Obviously I don't know any of the details other than the six years and $100 million."

In late July the Colts signed Peyton Manning to a five-year contract worth $90 million, which is equivalent to the deal Tom Brady signed with the Patriots last September for an average of $18 million per season.
