'Through My Eyes' offers inside look at QB Tebow

Tim Tebow is not your average football player.

The former Heisman Trophy winner will always stand out for his hybrid style of play at the quarterback position, but it's Tebow's mental makeup that truly has separated him from the pack.

That has never been more evident than in Tebow's new autobiography "Through My Eyes," co-written with Nathan Whitaker, where the 23-year-old signalcaller gives fans an inside look into how he has developed into the person he is today.

Tebow's true path began prior to his birth, with the now well-documented story of his mother, Pam, disregarding the advice of her doctors to abort Tim for health reasons, saving the life of her son, who would go on to become one of college football's all-time greats.

Early on, Tebow discusses how big of an impact his birth had on his entire family — and ultimately himself — and shares with readers one of the first of many lessons he learned from his parents. 

"… faith is like a muscle," Tebow wrote in the second chapter, entitled 'Given a Chance.' "You trust God for the small things and when He comes through, your muscle grows. This enables you to trust God for the bigger things, in fact, all things."

Tebow's faith is clearly expressed throughout, as each chapter begins with a verse from the bible. But in between the motivational and inspiring excerpts, readers really do get a sense of what Tebow's life has been like through "his own eyes," in a view not often attainable for athletes of his stature. 

While his tales of home schooling and high school success serve as interesting background knowledge, this was a book written for the hardcore Florida Gators fan.

All the way from his recruitment (where he came ever-so close to signing with Alabama) to his final collegiate game (a win over Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl), Tebow leaves it all on the table when discussing his Gators career.

He chose to attend Florida for many reasons, which included the fact that the team was championship-ready. Tebow had no problem watching QB Chris Leak lead the Gators to the national championship his first year on campus, giving a game-by-game analysis of what the historic season was like for him.

In fact, Tebow gives a full account of nearly every game he played in at Florida, from his '07 Heisman Trophy season to his second national championship in '08, down to the very end of his career.

While it's easy to get bogged down in some of the details, Tebow mixes in a lot of his own off-the-field perspective. Without giving too much away, he touches on adjusting his leadership style, outworking his competition and deciding to return to Florida for his senior season not only for football reasons, but because of the larger platform he had in Gainesville to impact more people's lives and become a larger role model.

For those looking for more of Tim Tebow: Denver Broncos quarterback, there's not quite as much to offer. He does touch on the draft and his first season in Denver, but not in nearly the same amount of detail as his college days.

But for hardcore Tebow fans, "Through My Eyes" offers an exciting look into the life of one of the most highly recognizable college athletes of all time. And for those waiting to see what he can do at the next level, there's always the chance Tebow writes another book in 23 more years — when he will be just 46 years old.
