Juan Manuel Lopez of Puerto Rico scored his 30th career victory without a loss, his 27th knockout, and his third straight stoppage win over aging former world champion Rafael Marquez of Mexico City after Marquez, complaining of an injury to his right shoulder, failed to answer the bell for the ninth round of Saturday night's Showtime televised second defense of his WBO featherweight (126 pounds) crown at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.Promoted by Top Rank Promotions, the southpaw Lopez rose to 9-0, with eight knockouts in title fights, and has long-range goal is to face Cuban-born, WBA king Yuriorkis Gamboa, a former Olympic gold medalist who is 19-0 with 15 knockouts.
Lopez won every round of what was a slug-fest, but the fourth, where he was wobbled and punished, starting with a right hand by Marquez. But the 27-year-old Lopez rebounded to win the next four rounds, out-slugging his 35-year-old counterpart.

As the eighth round ended, Marquez complained to his corner that he could not move his right arm.
"It was hurt before I came into the fight. I didn't want to postpone it any more. So I fought like that throughout my training camp," said Marquez. "In the third round, I couldn't even throw punches any more. I know that if I hadn't gotten hurt, it would have changed the result."
Lopez said that he was not able to detect that there was a problem with Marquez's shoulder.
"I never figured that there was anything wrong. He was so strong. Every time that he hit me, he was a very strong guy," said Lopez, adding, of the fourth round, "That's going to happen in a fight. You get hit. I got hit. It was a tremendous punch. He's a big puncher."
