During last Friday's Showtime conference call announcing his signing of a three-fight deal with the network, unbeaten Romanian-born southpaw IBF super middleweight champion, Lucian Bute, addressed questions from the national media.
Among the topics broached by Bute (27-0, 22 knockouts), of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, was a potential bout opposite the winner of Showtime's Super Six Super Middleweight (168 pounds) Classic, which is projected to be undefeated WBA king and tournament leader Andre Ward (22-0, 13 KOs), of Oakland, Calif., but which also includes Germany's former middleweight (160 pounds) champion Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KOs), England's former WBC titlist Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KOs), and, Jamaican-born former belt-holder Glen Johnson (51-15, 34 KOs) of Miami.
Bute might also entertain former WBA and WBC champion, Mikkel Kessler (43-2, 32 KOs), of Denmark, or the winner of a Dec. 18, Golden Boy Promotions bout featuring WBC light heavyweight (175 pounds) titlist Jean Pascal (26-1, 16 knockouts) of Canada against 45-year-old former world champ Bernard Hopkins (51-5-1, 32 KOs) of Philadelphia.
