WR-RS Cribbs, CB Brown miss practice again for Browns

Browns WR-RS Joshua Cribbs and CB Sheldon Brown missed practice for a second straight day on Thursday, but head coach Eric Mangini said he held out hope they would be able to practice on Friday.

Cribbs has a foot injury, while Brown has an injured shoulder. Cribbs is the Browns' kickoff and punt returner, while Brown starts at right cornerback.

Other Browns missing practice Thursday were DB Mike Adams (abdomen), DLE Kenyon Coleman (knee), OLB Scott Fujita (knee), OLG Eric Steinbach (calf) and OG-OT Floyd Womack (knee). Adams, Fujita, Steinbach and Womack missed their second consecutive day of practice, while Coleman had practiced on a limited basis Wednesday.

Mangini said he was "optimistic" that Steinbach and Womack, who's started at right guard and tackle this season, would be "OK."

Fujita is expected to miss Sunday's game at Jacksonville.

ILB Eric Barton (thigh), OLB Marcus Benard (illness), QB Jake Delhomme (ankle) and DL Shaun Rogers (ankle) practiced on a limited basis Thursday.

The way we see it

If Cribbs is out, the Browns will likely use newly signed Clifton Smith on returns. Brown would be replaced by rookie Joe Haden. Adams is a key reserve. Coleman sat out while fellow veteran lineman Rogers practiced on a limited basis Thursday.

Veteran reserve Steve Vallos practiced in Steinbach's spot Wednesday, Mangini said, with rookie Shawn Lauvao practicing at right guard. Billy Yates, who started the last three games at right guard, suffered a season-ending biceps injury on Sunday. Womack and Lauvao are the top options at right guard.
