Plaxico Burress is a free man again. After serving 20 months of a two-year sentence stemming from a gun incident at a Manhattan nightclub in late November of 2008, the former Giants wide receiver is being released from prison Monday.
"Big day tomorrow, looking forward to seeing Plax as a free man and with his family," Burress' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Sunday via his Twitter account.
Ten months after catching the winning touchdown pass against the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, Burress suffered a steep fall from grace when he was arrested after a non-licensed gun he was carrying accidentally discharged and struck him in the thigh. Burress was convicted of a felony gun charge and sentenced to two years in prison in September 2009, five months after being released by the Giants.
It remains to be seen how many NFL teams take a flier on Burress after his prolonged absence once the current NFL lockout ends. Two teams that have been rumored as possibly having an interest in signing Burress are the Eagles and the Rams.
The way we see it
At the age of 33, Burress figures to have a much more difficult time returning to NFL form than Eagles QB Michael Vick, who has made an impressive comeback from a prolonged prison stint.
The Eagles have denied any serious interest in Burress' services, and while Burress would be reunited with former Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo in St. Louis, the Rams are bursting at the seams with pass catchers following the draft.
