Joe Rogan is sorta sorry for saying 'cunty'

Apologies have been coming out over MOTORBOATGATE 2: THE CUNTENING. First we've got an itty bitty release from UFC.com entitled DANA WHITE STATEMENT:

Joe Rogan recently made an offensive statement reflecting a personal opinion that does not represent the UFC in any way. I have addressed this directly with Joe.

This was actually after Joe had released his own semi-apology on the same Underground Forums where he got nabbed calling Yahoo blogger Maggie Hendricks cunty:

This sport is infested with these people, and what they?re going to have to realize is that if they want to be writers and they want their stuff to be read and ingested than they themselves must become public figures in the process, and that includes being shit on for what you put out there.  The illusion of anonymity and a lack of repercussions available to the subjects of your work is a thing of the past.

Writers should expect to be openly critiqued and criticized online by anyone any everyone, because guess what ? those people writing forum posts shitting on your work are just as much a legit ?journalist? as any of these website people.

Translation: He just reported on your reporting, and the headline was "THIS REPORTER SUCKS." Don't take it too personally though Maggie ... he showed his main beef was with a post where he felt you criticized him, so his journalistic neutrality might come into question on this one.

My apologies to Maggie Hendricks for calling her ?cunty,? and I truly hope I didn?t hurt her feelings.  My forum post was honest and off the cuff, and I didn?t think out the possible reactions to it.  I don?t know the woman, and I?m sure she?s probably a nice person in real life, but if I have a point with any of this it?s that when you put negative shit out there in the form of bitchy blog posts, that shit is going to come right back at you, and you better not be surprised.

Yes, he just apologized for saying cunty and instead replaces it with 'bitchy'. Yes, he switched his word usage to 'bitchy' in there because bitchy isn't the horrific forbidden word that cunty apparently is.

I feel like I'm a friend of Lars von Trier trying to convince people that Lars doesn't really sympathize with Nazis even though he said "I sympathize with Nazis." There's no winning this argument, because you ain't getting out from under that Nazi quote. With Rogan, there's no getting past his usage of the word cunty, no matter how often he might use the word to describe stuff other than female reporters. You get caught in a media shitstorm after calling a woman a cunt, and you're gonna get labeled a sexist prick.
 
On the other hand, I agree with this part of his argument: being a member of the MMA media doesn't give you some sort of magic protection from being shit talked by people in MMA. And why should it? Welcome to Web 2.0, where you interact with everyone and they interact right back. The media policies of current major sports leagues are overly strict and basically stop players, managers, and anyone associated with the league from every saying anything interesting ever. The main argument being made right now through these motorboating and cunty incidents is that MMA needs to be more like these other, overly muzzled leagues. And when MMA fans say they're not interested in that happening, well then they must just be ignorant sexual harassment apologists.

Joe Rogan crossed a line and got a media bitchslap over it. But that shit with Rampage Jackson that started it all was nothing. IT WAS NO BIG DEAL. People continue to try and turn it into a big deal, but sexual harassment is only sexual harassment if the person involved feels harassed. And no matter how hard others have tried to make Karyn Bryant feel like she should be the victim (to the point where they've attacked her professionalism), she refuses to accept that role.

It comes down to people trying to dictate what is and is not proper in the sport of MMA. Most of us agree a line should be drawn somewhere but a lot of us are pretty leery about where that line would be if it was drawn by an over-reactive media willing to make mountains out of molehills for traffic and profit. Because we've seen how that shit works out in other sports, and it leads to stuff like the No Fun League.
