It appears one of the biggest hurdles left for the NFLPA is gone, as Chargers WR Vincent Jackson has agreed to withdraw his claim for compensation.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday morning that Jackson has given up on his request for compensation in the form of $10 million or not having the franchise tag for life. Jackson, one of the 10 plaintiffs in the Brady antitrust lawsuit, was the last to relinquish his claim.
The lockout will be lifted once the players agree to ratify the new Collective Bargaining Agreement that the owners approved with a 31-0 vote Thursday evening. The NFLPA executive committee first needs to agree to settle the lawsuit and recommend it to the 10 plaintiffs to sign off on.
The players are working through the weekend, but it's unclear when a vote can take place. The Hall of Fame game has been canceled, and if the players take until Wednesday, the first week of the preseason will be in jeopardy.
The way we see it
Jackson had denied asking for any compensation earlier in the week, and it was likely his representatives, not him, holding things up, but this is a big development bringing players closer to a potential vote.
