NFL game-day rosters will expand from 45 to 46

NFL game-day rosters will expand from 45 active players to 46, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The NFL management council informed teams Friday that the rosters have been expanded and that the designation of a third quarterback has been eliminated.

Unlike in years past, a team's No. 3 quarterback no longer will be listed as inactive. Prior to the change, a team could only use its third "emergency" quarterback if the starting QB was unable to return to the game.
