Broncos might target FB position in free agency

As rumors concerning the Broncos' plans to add both a running back and defensive line depth in free agency continue to swirl, we hear the team might be targeting another position. Former head coach Josh McDaniels ran a spread offense during his tenure in Denver, eliminating the need for a productive fullback. But John Fox runs a much more conservative offense — one that often includes multiple backs — and likely will look to bring in fresh talent at the position. Spencer Larsen, a sixth-round pick of the Broncos in 2008, is the lone fullback on the roster, but he has received just three carriers in his career and has yet to prove he can be an effective starter. According to one PFW insider, Rams FB-TE Daniel Fells is on the Broncos' radar. Fells, a free agent who isn't expected to return to St. Louis, could provide a boost in both the running and passing games, similar to FB Brad Hoover's contributions under Fox in Carolina.
