Bills sign DT Williams to six-year extension

The Bills have locked up DT Kyle Williams, agreeing to a six-year, $39 million deal on Friday.

Williams' agency, Elias Sports Management, confirmed that an extension had been agreed upon. According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the six-year deal has $17 million guaranteed.

Williams had a big season in 2010 and was rewarded with a Pro Bowl berth. In 16 games he recorded 77 tackles and led the team with 5½ sacks.

The way we see it

Williams' old contract was through 2012, and now the Bills keep arguably their best defensive player in Buffalo for six more seasons. Williams is 28 and can be effective in the 3-4 or 4-3. He should benefit this year by playing alongside rookie DE Marcell Dareus. The Bills need to improve the defense, making this extension important to keep Williams around. Next up on their list is likely WR Stevie Johnson, who is due to be a free agent in 2012.
