Lions CB Houston going to school on opposition

Lions LCB Chris Houston comes off perhaps his finest season in 2010, his first in Detroit. He worked on improving his technique, and he played with "swagger," as he said this week. "I like the confidence I played with," Houston said. The next step for Houston? He wants to bolster his knowledge of the game. He told PFW that he studies offensive schemes, WR tendencies and route concepts. With the Lions boasting a strong pass rush, Houston knows that "3-4" seconds of tight coverage can lead to a sack. He wants to do well for his teammates, and he says that's a collective feeling in Detroit. "It's more of a family thing on the defensive side of the ball now," he said. Houston is slated to start opposite of ex-Brown Eric Wright, who comes off a disappointing 2010 season after a promising '09. Houston likes what his new teammate brings to the defense, calling Wright "very skilled" and "instinctive."
