Jaguars waive WR Underwood, four others

The Jaguars reduced their roster to 85 on Thursday by waiving five players, including WR Tiquan Underwood.

The team waived Underwood, S Michael Hamlin, LB Slade Norris, PK Sam Swank and P Brent Bowden.

Underwood played in 10 games last season for the Jags and had eight catches for 111 yards. Underwood is the first draft pick to be released under the regime of GM Gene Smith. He was a seventh-round pick in the ’09 draft.

Hamlin, a third-year pro, played in just four games last season with the Jaguars and recorded three tackles. He had seven tackles in the Jaguars' preseason opener against the Patriots.

Norris is a second-year player out of Oregon State who played in five games last season.

The way we see it

Underwood simply never made the most of his opportunities. By releasing Bowden, the Jaguars seem content with 43-year-old P Matt Turk handling punting duties this season.
