Redskins rookie DE Jenkins tears ACL

Redskins rookie DE Jarvis Jenkins announced on his Twitter that he has suffered a torn ACL, knocking him out for the season.

Jenkins, a second-round pick out of Clemson, had been impressive this preseason and started at left defensive end against the Ravens Thursday night. He says he felt a pop in his knee as he tried to change direction to tackle a cutting Ray Rice on the Ravens' second offensive possession.

The team announced the injury as a "knee sprain" during the game, but an MRI Friday morning apparently revealed the tear.

The way we see it

This is a blow to the Redskins' defensive line, as Jenkins had been playing well and was pushing Adam Carriker to start at the DLE spot. Carriker likely will move back into the starting lineup but the depth behind him is lacking. Look for the team to add another end to bolster depth at the position.
