NFL, NFLPA to donate $1 million to 9/11 memorials

With the first Sunday of the NFL season falling on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, the NFL and NFLPA will contribute $1 million to various memorials and charities related to the occasion.

The NFL and NFLPA will contribute $500,000 to the 9/11 Museum & Memorial in Lower Manhattan, and $250,000 to be divided between the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, PA and the Pentagon Memorial Fund in Washington, D.C.

There will also be an auction on the league's website, which will feature game-worn jerseys, coaches and player hats and other autographed items. All the proceeds of that will be divided equally between Tuesday's Children, an organization who supports families who lost someone on Sept. 11 and first-responders who helped save lives on that day, and MyGoodDeed, which helps Americans honor and remember the victims, survivors and rescue workers of the attacks.

The Giants and Jets have already made donations to various 9/11 funds, and other teams may do the same.
