Report: Bears LB Briggs wants new contract

Despite having three years and nearly $14.5 million remaining on his current contract, Bears LB Lance Briggs apparently is unhappy with his deal and will seek a trade following the season if he hasn't received a new contract.

A report by Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune states that the 30-year-old Briggs recently approached the organization about a pay raise. The report cites the new contracts signed by linebackers A. J. Hawk, Lawrence Timmons, David Harris and Jon Beason this offseason as the likely incentive for the Bears 'backer wanting a new deal.

Briggs, who has missed most of the preseason due to a knee bruise, told the Tribune he will not hold out this season and will return to the field when healthy.

In 2008, after threatening to never play for the Bears again, Briggs agreed to six-year, $36 million contract with the team. Last season he made 89 tackles, his lowest total since his rookie season in 2003.
